Curriculum
Five axes,
three tracks
Biblical, theological and humanistic lenses open up wisdom and insight, and to these we add practical skill and the footsteps of those who lived this way. What follows is the full course we intend to run once the center opens.
Structure
Why five
Three lenses alone leave no room for practical skill or for real examples. As with a body, five parts have to interlock before there is a single course.
| Axis | Lens | The question it asks | What remains |
|---|---|---|---|
| Root | Biblical | What Scripture says about work, money and people | Conviction |
| Frame | Theological | Why it is so | A frame for discernment |
| Flesh | Humanistic | What a human being is | Insight |
| Hand | Practical skill | What you actually do on Monday morning | Capability |
| Foot | Footsteps | Whether anyone truly lived this way | Evidence |
The biblical lens reads the text, the theological lens reads the structure and the humanistic lens reads the person. Divided this way, the three lenses come to need one another.
Who it is for
Three tracks
Putting active leaders, emerging leaders and those who help them into one room satisfies none of them. Shared sessions stay shared, but the focus differs.
Active Christian business leaders
Judgment, calling and organization. The full passage through all five axes.
12 weeks · 2 retreats · 1 year of accompaniment
Future leaders and founders
Weighted toward foundations and practical skill. Shares some sessions with the Main Track.
8 weeks · 1 retreat
Pastors and professionals
How to understand and help business leaders, and how to meet a congregant's business life.
4 weeks intensive
There are almost no places where a pastor can learn how to meet a congregant who runs a business. The Companion Track exists for that empty space.
The path
Enter through refuge,
leave through the stronghold
Five stages, each keeping its Hebrew name. Rest comes before learning, because an exhausted person has no vessel to receive it.
Assessment and a first conversation. You face where you actually stand.
1 dayA retreat with no lectures. Only rest, silence and recovery.
2 daysThe five axes in full. We gather over breakfast or supper.
12 weeksWe walk the actual places where Christian business leaders lived.
2 daysOne year of close accompaniment after completion. No one walks alone.
12 monthsMain Track
Twelve weeks, session by session
Two hours each week, split into one hour of teaching and one hour of case discussion. Two straight hours of lecture loses a room of business leaders.
Root · Biblical lens
| Week | Subject | Text | Question for the business |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Work before the curse | Genesis 1–2 | Is my work a sentence or a commission? |
| 2 | Honest weights and boundary stones | Proverbs, Deuteronomy | Is integrity a cost or an asset? |
| 3 | A believer inside a pagan institution | Joseph, Daniel | Where exactly is the line of compromise? |
| 4 | Leadership from a collapsed place | 1 Samuel 22 | How do you rebuild people who have failed? |
Week four is the Adullam passage. Participants read the ground of the center's own name for themselves.
Frame · Theological lens
| Week | Subject | Applied to the business |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | Vocation: Luther's Beruf and the sanctity of ordinary work | Redefining the purpose of the company |
| 6 | Creation, fall, redemption, consummation as four acts of a company | A frame for organizational diagnosis |
| 7 | Sabbath theology: rest is a command, not a feeling | Burnout and designing organizational rhythm |
| 8 | Stewardship and its limits: a theology of wealth and power | Profit distribution, succession, giving |
Week seven is the identity session of this center. It argues rest as a theological obligation rather than a sentiment.
Flesh · Humanistic lens
| Week | Subject | Texts |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | Phronesis: practical wisdom and business judgment | Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics |
| 10 | What is within your control and what is not | Seneca, Epictetus |
| 11 | Leadership in crisis, learned from history | Case studies from business history |
| 12 | Desire and forgiveness: the human variable | Dostoevsky, Tolstoy |
At the close of the twelve weeks each participant writes and presents a one-page statement of calling for their own business. That page outlasts any certificate.
Hand · Practical skill
It has to work
on Monday morning
However deep the humanities and theology go, teaching that cannot be used in a meeting room ends as sentiment. This track runs alongside the main course.
| Module | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Persuasion and communication | The structure of conversation that moves people, and the order that lowers resistance |
| Strategic price negotiation | Holding your price without losing the relationship |
| B2B customer development | From designing first contact through to the first contract |
| Finance and tax | Tax and the posture of a Christian business leader. Reading a company in numbers |
| Relational leadership | Communication and conflict inside the organization. Management that leaves people behind it |
The three persuasion modules are rebuilt from the steward's three published works on persuasion and communication.
Foot · Footsteps
There were leaders
who actually lived this way
This is not a parade of admirable stories. One contested question is drawn from each figure and studied as a case, and for those in Korea we walk the place itself.
| Figure | Company | The question | How we study it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yu Il-han | Yuhan Corporation | Ownership, succession, and giving away an entire fortune | Case study · visit |
| Kim Yong-gi | Canaan Farmers School | The spirituality of labor and training for self-reliance | Case study · visit |
| Choi Tae-seop | Hankuk Glass | Balancing the running of a company with service to the church | Case study · visit |
| George Cadbury | Cadbury | Building housing and welfare for workers | Case study |
| John Wanamaker | Wanamaker's | The fixed price and the ethics of trade | Case study |
| R.G. LeTourneau | LeTourneau Technologies | Giving away ninety percent of income | Case study |
| Arthur Guinness | Guinness | Returning profit to the society around the business | Case study |
Each room in the lodging is given to one figure, with their words placed there. The space where people sleep becomes part of the teaching.
Retreat rhythm
A prayer room belongs
in the timetable, not the floor plan
A space that is built and then left unused is only a room. This is how a day is shaped during the Be'er retreat and the Halak journey.
| Time | Activity | Place |
|---|---|---|
| 06:30 | Morning worship | Chapel |
| 07:30 | Breakfast conversation | Dining room |
| 09:00 | Teaching or case study | Classroom |
| 11:00 | Silent reading | Reading room |
| 14:00 | Small group coaching | Group room |
| 16:00 | Personal prayer · one hour, required | Prayer room |
| 19:00 | Open conversation | Lounge |
The hour at four is required, not optional. For a business leader an hour alone is in practice the hardest discipline of the day, and it is the hour in which the difference of this place is felt in the body.
